Same Church, New Name

In 2009, Harvest Bible Chapel Palos was launched out of the church-planting ministry of Harvest Bible Fellowship.  Over the last two years, as Harvest Bible Fellowship dissolved, it became clear that God was moving our church to write our own distinct story for His glory.  A vital part of that story is our name.  With great excitement and anticipation, we have announced that our new name is Anchor Church.

Where does Anchor Church come from?

Our name comes from Hebrews 6:19, "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.  It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain..."

What is the meaning behind Anchor Church?

  • Just as anchor is the hope of a ship during a storm, securing it in place no matter how the storm rages, so Jesus is the anchor of our souls.  Jesus is our stability in life and security in death.
  • The anchor is one of the oldest symbols used by Christians in the early Church.  Even before the fish caught on as a symbol, Christians were using the anchor to identify themselves as followers of Jesus.
